Shirt Measurement (Laid Flat)



What you will need:

- A fabric measuring tape (fabric only).
- Assistance from a friend
- A well-fitting suit, shirt, pair of trousers (not jeans), and a pair of shoes.

When taking measurements:
- Keep the measuring tape comfortably snug, but not tight.
- All measurements should be made to nearest inch / centimeter
*Please note that the suit should be laid flat on a table or smooth surface for proper measurement.

1. COLLAR
(i) You may take this measurement from a shirt that fits you well.
(ii) The collar measurement should be taken from the middle of the button hole to the center of the collar botton(A-B) when the collar is spread flat.


2. HALF CHEST
(i) Button up the shirt and lay it on flat surface.
(ii) Measure from left edge to right edge just below the sleeves. (The straight distance between two points, as shown on the picture)


3. HALF WAIST
(i) Button up the shirt and lay it on flat surface.
(ii) Measure from left edge to right edge at the waistline.


4. HALF HIPS
(i) Button up the shirt and lay it on flat surface.
(ii) Place the measuring tape on the left bottom hem and measure straight across to the same point on the right side of the shirt.


5. SLEEVE LENGTH
(i) Lay the shirt on flat surface.
(ii) Measure with the sleeve at your side, from the sholder's seam all along the arm until the end of the shirt sleeve.


6. ELBOW
(i) Lay the shirt on flat surface.
(ii) Find point "F". (Around 39-41cm below the outer shoulder seam) Then, measure from "E" to "F" which as shown by the image on the left.


7. FOREARM
(i) Lay the shirt on flat surface.
(ii) Find point "O". (The 1/2 distance between the bottom of the sleeve to the cuff) Then, measure from "O" to "P" which as shown by the image on the left.


8. Bicep
(i) Lay the sleeve of the shirt on flat surface.
(ii) Starting at the bottom of the sleeve (5 cm below) and measure to the top folded edge of the sleeve while keeping the measuring tape perpendicular to the top folded edge of the sleeve. 


9. CUFF
(i) Lay the sleeve of the shirt on flat surface.
(ii) Spread the cuff flat with the inside facing up. Measure from the center of the button to the outside edge of the buttonhole as shown by the image on the left.


10. YOKE
(i) Lay the coat on flat surface.
(ii) Measure shoulders straight across from left shoulder seam to right shoulder seam.


11. SHOULDER
Measure the distance between sleeve and collar along the shoulder seam.


12. HALF ARMHOLE
With the shirt laid flat, measure from left seam to right seam at the base of the shirt.


13. SHIRT LENGTH
(i) Lay coat on flat surface.
(ii) Measure felt under rear collar down the center back length of shirt to bottom.
